NYFW Fall 2012: Candela

On February 9th, 2012 Candela held a presentation at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Candela began with the launch of a t-shirt line in Brooklyn nearly a decade ago. Gabriela at that time was a sales director at a major New York City Showroom. Soon Candela was the sole professional focus of her life and the business began to take off. Since its initial launch, Candela has evolved into a unique brand blending gaucho influences and elements from modern urban life. Today it has expanded to both ready-to-wear and footwear. In 2009, during the recession, Candela’s business grew at high double-digit growth rates while footwear sales account for 60% of annual revenues. In light of this success, the company has focused on capitalizing on its target market, honing in on its clientele and continuing to produce high quality, affordable products for the contemporary shopper. In July of 2010, Candela launched its e-commerce website and plans to open the first New York flagship store in 2012.

H&M DESIGN AWARD 2012 FINALISTS SHOW THEIR COLLECT

H&M is devoted to encouraging young and talented design students and moving fashion forward. Therefore we are thrilled to reveal that H&M has created a brand new, international design award with the ambition of supporting talented designers after their graduation. The H&M Design Award will push fashion students in the right direction, so that they can continue to grow and develop in their work as fashion designers. The film clips follow the contestants from fourteen of the most prestigious design schools in Sweden, UK, Germany, Belgium, Holland and Denmark, and gives an insight into the design process, the fashion industry and the exciting atmosphere at fourteen of the worlds renowned design schools. An international jury with some of the world’s biggest names in fashion will select the winner of the H&M Design Award 2012, together with Ann-Sofie Johansson, Head of Design at H&M.

Fashion Group International 2011 Rising Star Award


The fashion industry is always looking for its next rising stars, so Fashion Group International decided to make it official with its Rising Star Awards. Now in its 15th year, the awards recognize emerging talent in a number of categories, including womenswear, menswear, beauty, fragrance and accessories. While most of this year's nominees are far from being household names, the FGI nom bodes well for each: 2009's winner for womenswear was Christian Cota and in 2010 Joseph Altuzarra, beloved by fashion insiders, won in the same category. This year's awards, which will be presented January 26 with Isabel and Ruben Toledo delivering the keynote address.

Anya Ayoung-Chee wins Season 9 of Project Runway

After a long season and much anticipation the winner of Project Runway Season 9 was announced. The former 2008 Miss Trinadad and Tobago, Anya Ayoung-Chee now has another title to add to her list of moments to remember with pride and joy. This 29 year old from the Port of Spain is the winner of Project Runway’s ninth season on TV. Not only did the judges, Michael Kors, Nina Garcia and Heidi Klum pick her as their favorite but she also was chosen as “Fan Favorite” by the viewers.

ARGENTINE DESIGNERS - MERCEDES-BENZ FASHION WEEK S

The Consulate General of Argentina selected a group of Argentinian designers who showcased their 2012 Spring Collections on the runway at New York Fashion Week. Variety, color and creativity with lots of exciting twists made them stand out. Designers: Cardon, Cora Groppo, Daniela Sartori, Desiderata, Mariana Dappiano, Min Agostini

Supima Runway Show - New York Fashion Week Spring

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring 2012 hosted the fourth annual Supima design competition with eight finalists that include new names like Dara Rosen from Pratt Institute and Marlow Larson from the Savannah College of Art and Design. Supima designers used pima cotton it to create unique pink and brown prints, color blocking on dresses, flowing and tiered hemlines, mermaid gowns, and often embellished shoulders to add a little bit of architectural prowess in the clothing. This is a runway of up and comers worth watching.

ECCO DOMANI at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week New York

Ecco Domani means "here's tomorrow," and we look toward the future for both our wines and the world around us. In support of innovation in the fashion industry, the Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation (EDFF) is dedicated to supporting the careers of aspiring fashion designers. Each year, the EDFF awards a $25,000 grant to seven fashion designers to present a runway show at New York Fashion Week. This is the runway show video from Fall 2010.
